Announcing the Dean of the Class of 2022

Dan Rufer, dean of the current senior class, has been appointed Dean of the Class of 2022. Mr. Rufer began working at Grace in January 2011 as a mathematics teacher in the Middle School. Throughout the past seven years, he has been a homeroom advisor, a robotics teacher and baseball coach. In addition to his duties as Dean of the Class of 2018, Mr. Rufer has taught Algebra II for the past four years.
"I am excited to be the grade dean of the incoming freshman class. The past four years have been the most gratifying professional experience of my career," Mr. Rufer said of his appointment. As one of the first three class deans in the high school, Mr. Rufer has played a key role in shaping the culture of the newest division. "The community is what initially attracted me to Grace, and I have enjoyed being part of that community as it has grown in the high school for the past four years."

Prior to coming to Grace, Mr. Rufer taught mathematics and coached baseball at Horace Mann. His background in education is widely varied, having worked in a public school in Harlem, a Greek parochial school on the Upper East Side, and a largely immigrant school in Chinatown. Mr. Rufer holds a B. A. in Economics from Vassar College, where he played on the baseball team, an M.S. in Mathematics Education from City College, and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from New York University.

Mr. Rufer is a self-described, “long-suffering New York sports fan,” and follows the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. A native New Yorker, he graduated from the Trinity School, although he grew up in the Village near Grace. Perhaps most important, Mr. Rufer has an adorable five-year old Maltese Yorkshire Terrier mix named Moxie (pictured).
