First Annual Grace Spirit Day

Cheers of “Go Grace!” the swoosh of pom-poms, and whispers of Gremlin sightings bounced around the halls on Spirit Day. Students were invited to forsake the normal uniform in favor of Grace spirit wear and to show their school spirit with homemade signs and navy and white accessories. Students, faculty and parents arrived to a transformed school lobby decorated by parent volunteers.

The first ever all-school spirit day kicked off with a pep rally in the gym at 86 Fourth Avenue featuring the Grace Cheer Team and the Brooklynettes, the dance team for the Brooklyn Nets. Festivities continued throughout the day with face painting during recess at the grade school and a lunchtime student DJ and dance party at the Cooper Square campus.

All students were dismissed early so they could attend the annual varsity basketball game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The crowd was the largest it has been in the five years Grace has played in the Legends Classic. The boys tipped-off first and played fiercely, but came up short of a win. The girls took the court next and won in impressive fashion. During halftime at both games, the Grace cheer team performed a dance routine and stunts.

The Spirit Day events were organized by the Parents’ Association, and it was a fun-filled day for students in every grade to celebrate the community and spirit of Grace.
