Junior Wins Two Photography Prizes

Tristan Pinto ’18 was awarded the Grand Prize for his photography series “Pathways of Life from Ahigh” in the 2017 PDN Student Photo Contest.

Tristan described his series as “an aerial exploration that represents the pathways of success, spirtuality and mortality.” He shot in six diverse and fascinating locations: Manhattan, New York; Miacomet Golf Course in Nantucket, Massachusetts; The Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya; a temple oasis in Rajasthan; an Indian hayfield; and Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery.

Tristan’s photos will appear in the spring issue of PDN’s print magazine. They can be viewed online on the contest site in the category “High School – Any Subject.”

Last June, Tristan’s photo “Broadway Boogie Woogie Redux” was selected as the winning artwork from Tristan’s Congressional District, New York 10th, in the Congressional Art Competition. His photograph was displayed on Capitol Hill and he was invited to attend a reception at the Capitol in Washington D.C. with other winners and members of Congress.

Dan Rufer, Dean of the Class of 2018, describes Tristan as “a hard-working and inventive thinker.” He is a strong student who is active in multiple departments taking classes from Advanced Chemistry to Jazz Lab.
